Harnessing arts and advocacy can be a powerful tool to drive social change and promote access to SRHR services for adolescents and young people. The Masvingo Youth Arts (MAYA) Arts and SRHR Festival showcased how art, through poetry performances, music, and drama, can highlight social issues and raise awareness of the realities of adolescents’ experiences.
Organisations from various sectors highlighted the need for reviewing policies affecting adolescents’ access to SRH services, and what better way than through the power of art?
Mrs. Sibanda, Director of Coordination in the Office of the Minister of State for Masvingo Province, conveyed several key points on behalf of the Provincial Minister:
- The government is dedicated to ensuring access to SRHR services and upholding women’s right to bodily autonomy while fighting any barriers.
- Protective laws will be strengthened.
- Empowering women is essential for national progress, and dismantling patriarchal beliefs is everyone’s responsibility.
- Access to safe and legal abortion is a basic human right.
- The government supports creative arts and encourages organizations to approach provincial offices for land requests.
Join us in harnessing the transformative power of art to champion better SRHR services and policies.
