Empowering Leaders for Child Protection in Machinga

Empowering Leaders for Child Protection in Machinga. Under the BreakFree (BF) programme, SAT Malawi held a key dialogue with 30 traditional and religious leaders in Traditional Authority Chiwalo, Machinga District. This event, at Senior Chief Chiwalo Headquarters, focused on child protection laws like the Constitution of Malawi and the Child Care, Justice and Protection Act.

We discussed how chiefs and religious leaders can play a crucial role in safeguarding children and the importance of educating communities about abuse laws. Innovative strategies, such as involving youth in Theatre for Development and targeting congregations, were also highlighted.

The meeting concluded with plans for four more sessions between August and November, aimed at shifting mindsets and promoting child rights. Similar initiatives are on the horizon for Traditional Authority Njewa, Lilongwe.

We’re happy to be making strides in creating a safer environment for children!
